科学と宗教 Science and religion
英国の物理学者であり、英国国教会の司祭でもあった故ジョン・ポーキングホーン氏はインタビューの中で次のように言っています。
2つの目で見ることができます。ひとつは科学の目で、もう一つは宗教の目です。双眼鏡のように両目で見ると、片方の目だけで見るよりもより多くが見えます。
著名な物理学者のアインシュタインは次のように述べたと言われています。
宗教のない科学は、足に障害があること(lame)、科学のない宗教は眼に障害があること(blind)とおなじだ。
両者の意見は「科学」と「宗教」は相反するものではなく、補い合うものだという点で共通しています。そうであれば科学の進歩が著しい現代、また未来において宗教の役割は大きくなりこそすれ、小さくなることはないということになります。もちろん、宗教が科学を尊重し、科学から学ぶということが前提になりますが。

I believe I can be two-eyed. I can look with the eye of science and look with the eye of religion, and I’ll see more with that binocular vision than I will with either eye on its own. *1
The renowned physicist Einstein is reported to have said:
Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.
Both agree that 'science' and 'religion' are not contradictory but complementary. If this is the case, the role of religion can only increase, but not decrease, in the age of rapid scientific progress at present and in the future, on condition that religion respects and learns from science, of course.
